Dear Denmark

Please note: I am not being serious when I write this, just having a little fun with a dispute going on over an island in the Arctic btwn. my government and Denmark.

Dear Denmark:
We are, and have always been a peace-loving nation. So the fact that our Defense Minister made a visit to Hans Island is just as much a surprise to us, the Canadian People as it is to you. He was in the area and thought he'd stop by...

We are already the second largest country in the world (next to Russia) so we have no particular imperalist designs on the island, as a matter of fact we have no imperalist designs whatsoever anywhere. And if we did, why would we choose this island the size of a city block, when a far more appealing prospect: The turks and Cacos islands in the Carribean occasionally knock at our door wanting to join?

And Overall, we have more pressing issues elsewhere, (War on Terror, and Sponsorship program anyone?) so we would not want this to escalate into any armed conflict.

Do not hold the actions misguided they admittedly were of this one man against the rest of us. I'd like to unoffically apologize for them, he is a Liberal- a member of a party that is on a messy decline, he knows not what he does.

And remember: "We believe in peacekeeping not policing, and that the beaver is a truly proud and noble animal..."

Live8/G-8/London Attacks

The week started off quite well I think: London won the Olympics (Congrats!), and Live8, started to get the point across to the G-8 leaders. Tony Blair opened the G-8 summit, which was supposed to comprehensively tackle the issue of poverty. Then early on Thursday Morning (Ontario time), the news comes out that there had been bombings on the London transit system. My heart goes out to those that lost people, and I wish those that are injured a speedy recovery.

On Friday The G-8 ended with an agreement on Africa, a document that had the signatures of all 8 gentlemen. Bono said that because our Prime Minister (Paul Martin) renegged on his promise he was going to kick his butt. To Bono I say 2 things: First it will prove to be challenge for him to keep the promise to raise it to .7%, and as well keep the 4.5 billion dollars worth of promises to the N.D.P (New Democratic Party), along with the ever-growing spectre of having to pay the nearly 300 million bucks of public money that went missing courtesy of the Sponsorship scandal. Secondly, that in order to kick his butt he has to get in line behind a good-many other people that want to kick it. in other words: he has to join the crowd.
